Twitter wächst weiter - F.A.Z.-Community

21 Creative Ways To Increase Your Facebook Fanbase | Social Media Examiner

There’s a great myth that once you create a Facebook fan page for your business, the first thing you should do to get fans is invite ALL your friends from your personal profile using the “Suggest to Friends” feature.

Unfortunately, this strategy may not be that effective and can, in fact, often backfire. I have seen many industry gurus complain that when they decline a fan page request, it’s frustrating to continue to be asked again and again.

So, the good news is there are many ways to promote your fan page and proactively increase your fan base without bugging all your current Facebook friends, and also by thinking wider than just Facebook.

Here are 21 ways to get more fans for your Facebook fan page:

IKEA Victim of Facebook Hoax

IKEA Victim of Facebook Hoax

ikeagiftcard

A while back, more than 200,000 Swedes were fooled to join a Facebook group that promised to donate 2 SEK per fan to the victims of the Haiti earth quake. Only problem was that once the group reached the goal, it changed name and added some really outrageous content. I was somewhat amazed that all these people didn't see through that scam because when something seems too good to be true, it often is.

The latest scam is a Facebook campaign by IKEA that promises to give you a 1,000 USD gift card if you became a fan of the Swedish company. Of course, this is not really a campaign that is really run by IKEA. If you have any knowledge of the IKEA culture I'm convinced that you would agree that IKEA would never give money away in a stunt like this.

IKEA spokesperson Mona Astra Liss says the "false offer" is not some half-baked publicity stunt by IKEA. "It's absolutely not a publicity stunt and absolutely not endorsed by IKEA," she says. She adds that Facebook performs closed investigations of scams, so IKEA doesn't know who's behind the hoax.

Simultaneous Web and TV Use Is Surging [STATS]

New data from The Nielsen Company lends more credence to the idea that watching television while surfing the web is becoming more common in U.S. households.

In fact, nearly 60% — or 134 million people — do it at least once a month, with the average time spent consuming media on both platforms now three and half hours per month. That’s almost 35% more time spent doing both than last year at the same time.

These numbers should come as no surprise given the upward trend in simultaneous media consumption. Still it’s important to recognize just how prevalent computers in the living room have become. In fact, panelists reported using the Internet 34% of the time they were also watching television — 14% more frequently than a year ago.

Nielsen points to increased DVR usage as a factor influencing simultaneous usage rates. We also know that television viewers are using sites like Twitter () and Facebook () to share the experience with their friends and followers during live events like the Super Bowl, Grammys and Oscars.

Sony Sales Grow Through Twitter | SEO Consult News

It has been announced in March that Sony Viao’s Twitter page has amounted to over £1 Million in sales.
Speaking on 25th February at the Social Marketing for Brand Building event hosted by Marketing Week, Nick Sharples who is head of Corporate Communications at Sony, stated that the company sees Twitter as a viable sales platform as well as a tool to amplify PR activity.
The dominant force in consumer technology launched a web promotion campaign centred around a limited edition ‘Cyber Shot’ camera range, focusing on social media particularly to extend PR coverage of the brand. Over a nine month period this resulted in a revenue stream of over £12 Million.
Although speakers from other prominent brands at the event such as Diego agreed that social media  does deliver results, the general consensus was that it is most effective when paired with other more traditional marketing channels.
Further to this point, SEO specialist Katy Woodrow Hill suggests that ‘While product focused brands may look to use social media as a sales channel, for most it is about customer service.’
‘For them it is about saving money and reducing costs elsewhere by using it as a customer service feed rather than a sales feed. You have to work with your customers, your advocates and those who don’t like you in order to develop a social media personality.’
Recent studies have pointed towards a dramatic increase in terms of social media marketing, with Twitter growing fastest amongst the globes to performing companies listed in the fortune 500.

10 Key SEO Strategies Every Facebook Page Owner Should Know

magnifyingglass2Facebook Pages are increasingly becoming a “second home page” for businesses online. Google Analytics for Facebook Fan Pages

How to setup Google Analytics on your Facebook fan pages

The workaround we use in our code is to include Google Analytics as an image instead of setting the standard Javascript. This method tracks every visitor to the custom facebook pages on Google Analytics. It required a combination of server side cookie management and an additional <img> tag to the bottom of the facebook fan page. Here are the steps to get Google Analytics working on your facebook fan page.

1) Setup Google Analytics account. If you already have one, create a new website profile. You can name it facebook.com or facebook.com/your_page_name. You will finally get your tracking code which looks like this UA-3123123-2
2) Create your custom img tag for each of your pages you like to track. EG: contact form, services, products etc. You can use our tool to create the Google Analytics link generator for Facebook pages.
3) Add the entire custom image html tag from step 2 to the bottom of each Facebook fan page that you need to track.

That is all there is to it! Google Analytics is not real-time, so you will need to give it some time. Approximately a day before you see the fruits of your “hard” work.

Twitter Hits 50 Million Tweets Per Day

New stats released today by Twitter reveal that users now send out more than 50 million tweets per day. That means every second, 600 tweets fly through Twitter’s network.

As we reported two weeks ago, Twitter saw more than 1.2 billion tweets in January, or around 39 million tweets per day. These numbers came from Royal Pingdom and not Twitter itself, though.

The new numbers blow past Pingdom’s stats. Some of the highlights:

- In 2007, around 5,000 tweets were sent per day.

- By 2008, the number grew to 300,000 tweets per day.

- By 2009, around 2.5 million tweets were sent through Twitter every single day.

- Tweet growth shot up by 1,400% in 2009, reaching 35 million tweets per day by the end of the year.

- As of now, Twitter sees 50 million tweets created per day.

now the only question is how many of the 50 Mio Tweets are:
- Spam
- Retweets
- Twitterfeeds
- relevant?
