Data on Twitter Decline Stacks Up - eMarketer

According to data provided to eMarketer by Nielsen, traffic to Twitter.com was down a dramatic 27.8% between September and October 2009, falling to 18.9 million unique visitors. Nielsen is the latest in a list of research firms reporting declines at Twitter.com. comScore said unique visitors were down 8.1% in October, while Compete reported a 2.1% decline.

It has not been unusual to see wide shifts in Twitter traffic readings among Web measurement firms, and different methodologies likely account for the varying visitor counts. But one thing is clear: traffic to the Twitter.com Website is declining month over month after a period of huge gains.

The decrease in visitors could mean either falling interest in Twitter or simply migration to other platforms, such as third-party applications and mobile access.

The Social Media Marketing Blog: Recent Twitter Statistics

The Pew Internet & American Life Project has released some statistics about Twitter and other similar services that Americans use to post updates about themselves. The bottom line? About one in five Americans uses such a service.

Another interesting phenomenon is that we're seeing more young people using Twitter now. There have been anecdotal reports that young people were shying away from Twitter, but we can see the hard numbers here:

The median age for Twitter is now 31, while MySpace is down 26 from its previous 27 in May of 2008; and Facebook has risen significantly from 27 in May 2008 to 33 now.

There's a lot to digest in the study, but these are a few highlights that stood out. Anything interesting catch your eye? Please consider leaving a comment below.

Twitter Data Analysis: An Investor’s Perspective

Using some statistical trickery, the Twitter API, and my RJMetrics dashboard, I uncovered a ton of astonishing new information about Twitter. Here are some highlights:

  • Twitter's user growth is no longer accelerating. The rate of new user acquisition has plateaued at around 8 million per month.
  • Over 14% of users don't have a single follower, and over 75% of users have 10 or fewer followers.
  • 38% of users have never sent a single tweet, and over 75% of users have sent fewer than 10 tweets.
  • 1 in 4 registered users tweets in any given month.
  • Once a user has tweeted once, there is a 65% chance that they will tweet again. After that second tweet, however, the chance of a third tweet goes up to 81%.
  • If someone is still tweeting in their second week as a user, it is extremely likely that they will remain on Twitter as a long-term user.
  • Users who joined in more recent months are less likely to stop using the service and more likely to tweet more often than users from the past.

Twitternutzer sind sehr aktiv

Interpret surveyed over 9,200 internet users in August, finding that roughly 24 percent of the respondents that used Twitter, reviewed or rated products online; just 12 percent of people that used other social nets—but not Twitter—said the same. Twitter users were also more likely to visit company profiles (20 percent) than non-Twitter users (11 percent), and twice as likely to click on ads or sponsored links (20 percent vs. 9 percent).

Was Unternehmen twittern (Zucker Kommunikation Trendreport)
